After the fall of the Muslim empire, the mosque was buried under the ground due to natural disasters during the British rule. As there is no population in the mosque area, the mosque is covered by forest. In the early 1960s, Gaibandha Sub-Divisional Administrator Haqqani Qutbuddin, a pious man, heard the history of the Shahi Masjid from the local people after taking charge as the SDO. After listening to the people, he started searching the mosque with the help of the local people. But as a huge banyan tree grew in place of the mosque, the mosque was covered by the banyan trees. Suddenly one day the banyan tree fell in a heavy storm and the local people saw the mosque. Since then people know the mosque as Ghaibi Masjid. In front of the Jamalpur Ghaibi Masjid, a huge sized lake also became visible. It is said that seven hundred years ago there was a tyrant Hindu king named Khirodhar (Ganjio) in this area. He was the owner of three states. Of the king of that kingdom There were many pike-paedas. The king's pike-footmen used inhuman tortures on the subjects. On the other hand, the subjects silently tolerated the torture of the king. It is said that during this time Hazrat Shahjalal Chowdhury (R.A.), a noble person from Sylhet, came to this area with his family. Since then, the mosque was named Shahjalal Shahi Mosque and the Union is said to have been named Jamalpur.
